PROCEDURE
Method of Participation / How to Receive Credit:
- Review the activity objectives and CE information.
- Complete the CE activity.
- Complete the posttest. A score of at least 70% is required to successfully complete this activity.
- Complete the CE evaluation/attestation form, which provides each participant with the opportunity to comment on how participating in the activity will affect their professional practice; the quality of the instructional process; the perception of enhanced professional effectiveness; the perception of commercial bias; and his/her views on future educational needs.

TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity is intended for anesthesiologists, surgeons, pulmonologists, intensivists, CRNAs, ICU, CCU, SICU nurses, and hospital pharmacists who manage patients requiring sedation in intensive care and perioperative settings.
STATEMENT OF NEED
Patients in intensive care or undergoing procedures frequently require pain management. Assessment of pain, sedation, agitation, and delirium with validated scales is a critical part of maintaining the balance between oversedation and undersedation. Practical application of recent results from patient management trials and from pharmaceutical clinical trials can enhance the practice of sedation and patient outcomes.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVE
Upon completion of this activity, the participants should be able to:
- Assess recent clinical findings in sedation and analgesia management and incorporate them into the management of patients in the acute care, procedural, and surgical sedation settings
