TARGET AUDIENCE

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of pharmacists and physicians involved in the management of patients with carpal tunnel syndrome. Estimated time to complete this monograph and post-test is 90 to 120 minutes.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The goal of this program is to provide the reader with current knowledge about carpal tunnel syndrome, specifically including nonsurgical management with pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic measures, and to enable the health care provider to counsel patients with carpal tunnel syndrome.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of this program, the participants will be able to:

  1. Define carpal tunnel syndrome,
  2. Describe the pathophysiology and anatomic location of CTS,
  3. Identify risk factors for the development of CTS,
  4. Identify the clinical signs and symptoms of CTS and subsequent diagnostic
    measures,
  5. Discuss the role of nonpharmacologic, noninvasive therapy,
  6. Describe the rationale and utility of pharmacologic therapies in patients
    with CTS, and
  7. Identify information necessary for counseling patients with CTS.
