Program Overview

WebWindowsTM into Stroke Webcast
This 80-minute interactive webcast with synchronized slides combines didactic presentations with lively panel discussions stimulated by real-life patient scenarios. Dr. Guthrie presents a didactic discussion on the implications of unidentified and undertreated stroke and stroke risk. Then, the 3-member panel introduces a series of representative patient cases with each panelist discussing their discipline's key methods of identifying, diagnosing, and managing stroke and TIA in at-risk patients.

On-Demand Educational Slide Library
Following completion of the educational activity, participants may access an online library of slides for use in peer-to-peer education by logging on to www.webwindows-into-stroke.com. The slide sorter technology allows users to pick and choose slides to fit their particular needs and presentation styles.

PROCEDURE

To obtain CPE credit:

  1. Review the CPE information, take the case-based pretest (a username and password are required to access your account), and review the CPE content of the activity
  2. Complete the entire outcomes survey and information as requested.
  3. Answer the Activity Evaluation questions.
  4. You can print out your statement of credit immediately. You can also view your test history at any time and print out duplicate statements from the Web site.

Approximately 3 months after submitting your outcomes survey, you will receive an e-mail invitation to respond to a very short follow-up online survey, which will allow us to verify your continued understanding and application of the information presented in this educational activity. STATEMENT OF NEED/PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The goals of this program include discerning the medical implications of unidentified and undermanaged TIA, as well as other stroke risks; providing strategies for identifying, stratifying, and managing stroke risk factors; and designing a customized stroke prevention/treatment algorithm involving the latest therapeutic options.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

  1. Summarize key recommendations for stroke prevention from evidence-based guidelines
  2. Use clinical, demographic, and laboratory factors to perform stroke risk stratification, with emphasis on the importance of previous stroke and TIA in risk stratification
  3. Develop an individualized stroke prevention program that incorporates evidence-based pharmacologic, interventional, and lifestyle components
  4. Recognize the need for stroke prevention in patients with TIA
  5. Discuss emerging anticoagulant and antiplatelet strategies for stroke prevention.
