Turning the Tide on Venous Thromboembolism Applying Anticoagulation Best Practices to Reduce the Disease Burden
Activity Description and Educational Objectives
In this activity, an expert in cardiovascular medicine discusses several best practices for reducing the disease burden of venous thromboembolism (VTE).
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Implement evidence-based guidelines for initial and long-term anticoagulation in the treatment and secondary prevention of VTE
- Select direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) for initial and long-term VTE management based on patient preferences, appropriate dosing regimens, and specific factors such as bleeding risk and comorbidity
- Outline best practices to improve VTE risk assessment and transitions of care for patients with VTE
- Educate and counsel patients on the use of DOACs, including comparative safety and efficacy data and the importance of adhering to DOAC therapy for secondary prevention of VTE
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of specialists in vascular medicine, pulmonology, vascular surgery, and hematology, as well as primary care providers, emergency medicine physicians, pharmacists, advanced practice clinicians, and other healthcare professionals involved in the treatment of patients with venous thromboembolism.
Requirements for Successful Completion
In order to receive credit, participants must view the activity and complete the post-test and evaluation form. A score of 80% or higher is needed to obtain CME/MOC credit and 70% or higher to obtain CNE/CPE credit. There are no pre-requisites and there is no fee to participate in this activity or to receive CME/MOC/CNE/CPE credit. Statements of Credit are awarded upon successful completion of the post-test and evaluation form.
