Goal Statement  The goals of this educational initiative are to provide pharmacists with the knowledge and tools to help consumers 1) differentiate among smoking cessation methods, 2) appropriately select and administer prescription and nonprescription smoking cessation agents, and 3) recognize the benefits of full nicotine elimination rather than replacing the cigarette addiction with another nicotine source.

Educational Objectives  Upon completion of this program, participants should be better able to:

1.

Apply tools to conduct effective smoking cessation education for patients in the pharmacy setting

2.

Discuss accurate information about the effectiveness of smoking cessation methods based on available data

3.

Identify and dispel myths about e-cigarettes and heat-not-burn products as smoking cessation methods

4.

List recommended use of smoking cessation strategies including dosage, administration, contraindications, and best practices

Credits: 1.0 hour (0.10 ceu)
