Gigi Davidson, BSPh, DICVP
Faculty Chair, Veterinary Pharmacotherapy Modules
Gigi Davidson is the CEO of VetPharm Consulting and was the Director of Pharmacy Services at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine (NCSUCVM) from 1983 to 2018. Gigi has been practicing veterinary clinical pharmacy since 1983 and was one of the first pharmacists to achieve diplomate status in the International College of Veterinary Pharmacy. In 2006, she was one of the few non-veterinarians inducted into the Phi Zeta Honor Society as an honorary member for distinguished advancement of veterinary science. Over her more than four decades of exclusively veterinary pharmacy practice she mentored ten PGY1 Veterinary Pharmacy Residents and more than 500 PY4 APPE students from 20 different colleges of pharmacy.
Ms. Davidson is a nationally recognized expert on the subject of Veterinary Pharmacotherapy. She is the current Veterinary Pharmacology Editor for the Merck Veterinary Manual. She is a past President of the Society of Veterinary Hospital Pharmacists (SVHP) and the American College of Veterinary Pharmacists (ACVP) and holds Fellow status in both organizations. She represents ACVP in the APhA House of Delegates and is Chair of the SVHP Residency Training Program. She has authored numerous CE courses and veterinary pharmacy electives which are currently offered online and in many top-ranked schools of pharmacy.
Ms. Davidson has been a member of the United States Pharmacopeia Compounding Expert Committee since 2005 and chaired that committee from 2010-2020. She is the recipient of the 2010-2015 USP Beal Award for distinguished volunteer service in healthcare standards setting, USP's highest honor. Ms. Davidson is the author of the Veterinary Drug Handbook: Client Information Edition and has authored several textbooks and on-line continuing education programs for pharmacy students and practicing pharmacists. Ms. Davidson has many publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Her primary area of research interest is quality, stability, safety, efficacy and disposition of compounded preparations in non-human species. When she is not engaging in veterinary pharmacotherapy initiatives, she is a conservationist beekeeper dedicated to landscaping and beekeeping methods that help restore the health and vitality of the honeybee.
